Create a digital platform that showcased the wedding details and allowed guests to respond online.

We knew this platform would be perfect as a Progressive Web App, efficiently built, easy to use and cost effective.

The potential of the platform was so great, we’ve since begun developing a new Lunar Works App; Corona.

A modern wedding. The couple wanted a wedding with a difference, both in terms of ceremony and invitations.

A Wedding With A Difference

Simon and Hannah, the newly engaged couple, approached Lunar Works, proposing the idea for a way of sending out their invites in a creative way. Many of their guests we’re living all over the world and the logistics of sending physical invites was becoming a hassle. They asked if we were able to send out email invitations and allow their guests to respond via a website.

We loved the idea and felt it would be perfect as a Progressive Web App (PWA).

Make It A PWA

We proposed that the concept should be designed as a Progressive Web App. This allowed for greater flexibility in the functionality of the platform. For example, we anticipated many guests wouldn’t be able to complete their RSVP in one sitting, a PWA can automatically save a user’s progress, allowing them to complete it at a later date.

The platform would also allow guests to update their RSVP if something changed. This would eliminate the need for guests to contact the couple informing them of the change and instead they could simply log in to the platform and update their response, instantly notifying the couple of the change.

A Wide User Base

Weddings involve inviting guests of all ages and technological understanding. This was a great design challenge for Lunar Works. We knew the platform had to be easy to use, and responsive across all devices with web browsing capabilities.

We looked into what similar platforms were available and discovered they all took an age to load. They were heavily focused on slick animations and pretty graphics, at the cost of performance. We knew functionality had to come first before any aesthetics could be implemented.

Easy To Use

Due to the diverse user base, we created a multitude of personas that would likely use the platform. This allowed us to design features that would meet the needs of all who would be invited to the wedding.

The design was refined from the initial sketches into a digital prototype that was then shared online with the wedding couple. We asked for their feedback which helped shape the design into the final high fidelity prototype, a near perfect representation of the final platform. Once we received their written approval on the final prototype, we could move on to the build phase of the project.

Clean design. A simple interface allowed for users to easily navigate their way through the RSVP process. Step-by-step. We blocked users from continuing the RSVP process without completing mandatory fields. Responsive design. The graphical elements were kept simple to allow for greater design consistency across various devices.

A Complete PWA

The build phase went through multiple iterations. At each point we invited Simon and Hannah to review the build and highlight any issues they encountered. The couple provided us with all the event information to integrate into the platform. This included the venue information, the menu, the schedule and a list of local hotels and taxi firms for guests to use.

The platform BETA was published on a secure server, ensuring the information we were featuring on the platform was kept private.

Send The Invitations

The master version of the platform was published and we launched our email campaign featuring custom designed wedding invitations. The invitations featured unique 4-digit codes that allowed each guest to login securely to the platform. The codes also provided users with tailored information, for example evening guests wouldn’t be shown the daytime schedule and instead only see the events that were relevant to them.

You are cordially invited. The invites were sent via Mailchimp to monitor responses.
