Website Development Project Overview
Develop a new website that matched the well-defined brand identity already being utilised in print form.
Utilising the existing brand identity; we developed a website that showcased the beauty of The Queen’s Inn.
A responsive and more performant website that featured the fundamental information amongst the beauty of the hotel.
A warm welcome. A business that needed to be as appealing online as it did in reality.
What Good Is Informative Content If You Can’t Read It?
The client was concerned over the dated content that was featured on their website and wanted a design that was more in-keeping with the brand and atmosphere of the restaurant, bar and hotel.
The website itself was non-responsive and therefore near impossible to read on mobile devices. While the content for the website was there, it wasn’t being shown in an efficient way. The issues weren’t limited to design and function, but were evident down to how the website was put together; the website was built using graphics alone, not accounting for people with poor eyesight who would find it impossible to read.
Time For A Significant Upgrade
Our priority was functionality; the site had to work seamlessly on mobile devices and feature the latest food menus, room features and prices. But this had to be supported with beautiful imagery—function and aesthetics working together.
We had a strong foundation to start the project; a well-defined identity and clear list of deliverables for the website would save us time during the ideation phase.
A Beautiful Identity Waiting To Be Utilised
The client had commissioned a professional photoshoot of The Queen’s Inn when it was first refurbished. The images showcased the beautiful design of the bar and restaurant as well as the unique design of each of the hotel rooms.
The menu and room webpages would need to be redesigned to allow for easy reading and regular updates. Current site navigation was clunky, relying on custom icon graphics that weren’t easily recognisable. The icons were lost amongst the noise of many other graphics over the interface, we would have to devise a simple way of laying out the navigation.
Rest your head. Each room had a distinctive style that needed to be featured on the Rooms page.
Recreating The Atmosphere Of The Hotel On The Website
The design of the website would be defined by the key features of The Queen’s Inn; namely details on each unique hotel room, full list of food and drink menus with prices and details about local attractions for hotel guests.
The website prototypes progressed through the various fidelity levels and were presented to the client for written approval. Once the high fidelity prototype was completed it was reviewed and approved by the client, ready to move on to the build phase.
Simple and elegant. The website didn’t want to deter from the powerful branding utilised in the print world.
Iconic identity. The Queen’s Inn logo reflected an elegant atmosphere.
Minimalistic design. A website that didn’t bombard the user with information but instead encouraged exploration.
Putting The Pieces Together; From Prototype To Website
A website of this scale didn’t need to be made overly complicated, but did need to be fast and stable. The best approach for this project was a bespoke hand-coded solution. With a well-defined design, each piece was built from the ground up and assembled into the final website.
Rigorous testing was carried out, ensuring all device sizes and platforms were covered. With the site behaving as desired, performance was then checked, images were compressed using industry-leading technology so that we may deliver the high-quality imagery performantly.
Website Built, Tested And Ready To Launch
We worked with the client to launch the new website onto their web host, once live they could begin promoting their new look on social media.
Since the launch; new features have been added, namely a page promoting the new adjoining restaurant; The Charcoal Kitchen. We have continued to provide ongoing support for The Queen’s Inn website with updates to its menu and events pages.
Update:
Lunar Works provides ongoing support to The Queen’s Inn website with the publishing of seasonal menus and upcoming events.
